[Her smile springs open wide; she doesn't exactly like it when people just tack generic positive adjectives like nice or amazing onto her work, but since Aya's in the field herself she probably at least means it when she says it]

Reporting on a situation like this is new news for me, too.

I find it impressive how many pictures of smiles you can capture, even at times like these. [ almost nobody smiles for her pix!!... for good reason. ]

Okay, the lede looks pretty good... but do you think after the jump there would be room for 172.jpg? "Fictive Kinship Increasingly Convoluted."

[As she lets Aya think that over, Mahiru starts gathering the necessary amount of paper, organizing the blank pieces into tidier stacks.]

Ayaya, that's perfect--every reader loves a good family drama. Let's see if I can write something fitting for this shot... [ examining the photo in question hmm hm yes she can feel the story gears clicking into place already. ]

Well, after 172 there's 175 - in between, 173 and 174, they have Kuzuryuu in them so they didn't come out that great. I figure there's probably only space for one of them, so it's your call.

[While Aya thinks that over Mahiru dashes off two short paragraphs and fixes her introductory sentence so the two-part article is now rough complete.] How's this look? Any more changes? We could probably print this as teacup photo on one side of the sheet and trial photo on the other side.

[ printing out the selected polaroids as she nibbles on the end of a pen. ] Paper space is limited since paper material itself is, but that looks like the most productive format. If I can resize the picture without losing too much detail, we could squeeze in a few more words too.

Ooooh, we could have a side caption since you have it at that width. [Pointing to the edge of the resized polaroid.

They pass by several happy minutes this way working their way until they have about forty copies of these sheets. And then a stack of paper finds its way under the door. Mahiru gets up to retrieve them cautiously and instantly cracks a grin as soon as she reads the first two sentences.]

Tanaka, oh my god. Get a load of this. [Rifling through the stack... wow, it's thick; ten double-sided sheets!!] We might have to publish this as a limited-run extra or something... he really went all out here, look. [She places the first four pages next to Aya.]

You know what I keep worrying about... the room searches. Not being able to give out our stuff, that's really inconvenient.

It rather is. Unless we cut off the limb of the deceased to swipe it, anything inside is lost.

And it seems like most of us ruled that out earlier... you know what I never figured out? Would we even have anything sharp enough? Does a kitchen knife work for that?

It really looks like we're almost all resigned to playing this game by the rules instead... but that can't be helped.

... I agree with you that it's a shame the rooms are locked in. If there were valuable clues or information someone couldn't--or was afraid to broadcast before they died, it'd be lost forever.

Yeah... It's just one more time this game pushes you into the corner of trusting another person... or ending alone. You could leave a trail of clues to a drop point, but then anyone could solve that!

That might be the gamemakers' reasoning. In a place like this, trusting someone is definitely a leap of faith, even though any of us could get killed anytime.
